As picturesque goes, maybe this is not very, until you realize the importance of this annual powdering ritual that the vines undergo at this time of year. Usually they're powdered with yellow sulfate, the purpose of which is to stop the newly forming grapes from rotting. This is a problem, which because of climate change, seasons being out of kilter and humidity remaining in the summer when it didn't used to and isn't supposed to, has been causing the growers a lot of concern, extra work and added costs in recent years.
