Corpus Christi 2010

image

Courtesy of Jack Montgomery of Real Tenerife Island Drives, we have this sunny image of the sand carpet made for Corpus Christi in La Orotava this year, just as the finishing touches were being made to it on Wednesday afternoon.

But what an unfair bit of bad luck for all concerned that, 24 hours later the sun had disappeared, to be replaced by the first rain on Carpet Day since 1942.

(Mind you, I'll bet Wimbledon would love to be able to boast a rain-free record that long!)

But the rain didn't completely stop play and people still made their flower carpets in the town's streets. Tenerguia have some images here, while the Association of Carpet Makers point to two separate galleries of photos from the day, as well as several posts showing the progress of the making of the carpets throughout the day, from the first photos when work commenced, through to when the carpets were almost finished, on their blog.
