On 25th July 1797, the surrender was signed after Nelson's failed attempt to take the port of Santa Cruz in Tenerife and after a shot from this cannon (supposedly) had shattered Nelson's arm. Reenactments have marked the anniversary of this proud victory for the local people of the island. The gun can be seen in the Museo Militar de Almeida (The Almeida Military Museum) in Tenerife's capital.
